Fork/Watch buttons lead to signup

Reported by Bob Aman | April 28th, 2008 @ 02:32 PM

Right now, the fork and watch buttons send you to the signup page if you're not logged in. Most people who are clicking those buttons already have accounts, so it would be helpful if they sent you to the login page instead. It'd also be nice if the fork/watch operation automatically happened as soon as the user logged in after clicking those buttons.

Also, if you sign in from another tab, and click the fork or watch button on a tab that was open prior to signing in, it'd be nice if it figured out that you were already signed in and went ahead and completed the operation. Some redirection probably required.

Also, it'd be great if the fork/watch/download buttons didn't change URIs when you're not signed-in. Consider this scenario: I visit a project on github, click "watch", I get taken to the sign up page (eww), get annoyed, go to the login page instead, sign in, hit my back button until I get back to the project page, and click "watch". Just wonderful, now I get to be annoyed again, because I'm right back on the sign up page. My browser has cached the response I got when I wasn't signed in. Uber-lame.
