Message bodies have ugly line spacing

Messages are harder to read than they need to be.
See this pastie since lighthouse formatting is not working for this example
For longer paragraphs of text readability of the drops as multiple paragraphs are smashed together making it much harder to tell where one stops and another begins.
Can it just be standard textile rules? So that a single line break is a "br"
and a double line break wraps that text in "p" tags (or even doubel "br"s)? That would help quite a bit.
